DDS Class Descriptions

Each student is closely evaluated by the faculty and director, there is a syllabus for each class that the faculty follows. While each class description gives an age/grade level, these ages/grades are a general guideline and students do not automatically move up to the next level according to age/grade listed or the amount of years that they have studied dance.  We want to ensure that students can execute proper technique of each movement for that level before moving to the next level.  Dancers are placed in a level that is appropriate for them as our goal is to promote confidence, self-grown and development.

Ballet Technique (Grades 4 – 12)

This non-performance class is designed for students who want to further their ballet training. Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student's strength and physical development, not by their age. Class curriculum consists of barre work, center, and across the floor progressions. Students may wear pre-pointe or pointe shoes once the appropriate student evaluation has taken place.

Acro & Tumbling (Grades K – 12)

This non-performance class teaches controlled moves that involve balance and flexibility which can lead to acrobatic elements as a performer.

DDS Dance Teams (Grades 2 - 12)

Any student wishing to further their growth as performer is welcome to train and participate in competitions, community outreach, as well as various local and regional events. Any fees or costs associated with competitions and events are the responsibility of the student. All team students (ages 8+) must be enrolled in at least 1 ballet class, one technique class, and attend our summer dance intensive. Complex choreography will be showcased at performance events.  Advanced level groups will be selected by the choreographer based on the student's ability, stage presence, and strength in a particular dance style.  In addition to competitions, our dance teams have trained with the Radio City Rockettes in New York City, Belly Queen Dance Theater, Stars Dance Company, Tap Life, and renowned professional choreographers throughout the world. We have performed in the Main Street Parade and on stage in Disney World, center court for the Boston Celtics, Providence Bruins, and Brockton Rox in addition to working with several charitable events raising several thousand dollars as part of our studio's “Dance for a Difference” mission.

DDS Theater Company (Grades K+)

Our theater program is open to students wishing to participate in a theatrical stage production annually each Spring.  Students audition for roles and prepare rehearsals while developing their ability to perform. Vocal training, dance choreography as well as individual coaching are supplied throughout the months leading up to the performance. Some of our past productions have included our Aladdin, The Wizard of Oz, and Annie.
